“El Lissitzky: The Artist-Inventor” lecture by Tanya Sirakovich (Hebrew)

11.08.2021

Please join us for a lecture on El Lissitzky (1890-1941) by Tanya Sirakovich – Michael Bromberg Head Curator of Prints and Drawings at the Israel Museum, Jerusalem – part of the public program for “Assaf Gruber: Transient Witness,” currently on view at CCA Tel Aviv. During the lecture, Sirakovich will stress how unimaginable the history of the avant-garde of the early 20th century would be without Lissitzky, who considered himself a universal artist, an “artist-inventor.” Through his unique approach to creativity, the artist introduced his “utopian ideas for the reordering of the world,” reinterpreting painting, book making, and photography in an innovative way. Furthermore, Sirakovich will underline how the artist embarked upon each new stage of his career impetuously, melding together varying trends: from Jewish folklore to Futurism, from Suprematism to Constructivist typography, from architectural projects to experimental exhibition design.
